In the chamber of the body’s unseen reign. There lies a guardian, thyroid named Amidst the throat’s embrace, its kingdom dwells, Guiding metabolism, as a tale it tells. With subtle whispers, it maintains the sway, Balancing rhythms in night and day.
The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland part of our endocrine system. Which is located at the base of the neck. It is responsible for generating two main hormones named Thyroxine (T-4) and Triiodothyronine (T-3) which are quite important hormones responsible for controlling the body’s metabolic speed. In a growing child or an infant thyroid hormone plays an important role in the development of the brain.
Hormones are the type of chemicals that are necessary for our body with different functions that carry signals through blood throughout the body for various functions.
TYPES OF THYROID HORMONES
There are two major types of hormones released from the thyroid gland named as :
1. THYROXINE OR T4 –
This hormone is largely inactive which does not show any impact on the cells alone and still plays a crucial role in the binding or working together with the THYROXINE or T4 hormone.
2. TRIIODOTHYRONINE OR T3 –
This is an active hormone. When THYROXINE or t4 is released and reaches to the organs such as the kidney, liver, muscles and nervous system through the blood the organs and muscles transform it into TRIIODOTHYRONIN or t3 hormone which impacts the metabolism of the body.
There is another hormone called CALCITONIN released from the thyroid gland. Which is responsible for the regulation of calcium in the blood. It is not added to the group of T3 & T4 because it does not show any impact on the metabolism just like T3 & T4 do.
